About
Ed Barbour serves as the Director of Informatics Operations of the BI Core team. Ed received a MS in Bioinformatics from the University of Michigan Medical School and has twenty years of working experience in bioinformatics and biomedical informatics. Previously, he served as the Director of the Informatics Core at The Rockefeller University Hospital in New York City for nine years where he founded the first Bioinformatics core and launched major projects at the Rockefeller Hospital including a clinical trials management system and electronic IRB submission and review system. Prior to joining UIC, Ed served as a pharmacogenomics systems architect in a public/private partnership between the University of Michigan and AssureX Health. He was also the first Vice President of Scientific Content for Compendia Bioscience of Ann Arbor, MI, and helped to launch the commercial version of the product known as Oncomine, a standard in cancer research. Additionally, Ed has fifteen years of successful commercial software development experience, designing and developing software used by Fortune 500 companies. Ed is an expert in data modeling and database design and has led successful implementations of integrated research systems for The Rockefeller University Hospital including successful machine learning projects.
