Dr. Jessica Rothstein, an assistant professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the UIC School of Public Health, is working to reduce health inequities that originate in early childhood, particularly among Chicago Latine families.

A CCTS Clinical and Translational Science affiliate scholar, Rothstein’s work focuses on optimizing early childhood development through the “Sit Down and Play” intervention. This responsive parenting program is designed to be integrated into routine pediatric visits during the first year of a child’s life, encouraging parents to engage in play through an age appropriate toy.

Dr. Rothstein’s role in refining this intervention focuses on making it culturally sensitive and accessible for diverse families, particularly within Chicago’s Latine community. By tailoring the program to fit the unique needs of each family, she aims to enhance its acceptability and feasibility, ensuring it can effectively support parents in fostering their children’s development.
