CCTS Co-Sponsors Community Health Research Conference

Dr. David Stovall addresses the audience during his keynote talk

In October 2022, CCTS co-sponsored a Community Health Research Conference that highlighted the contributions of  community-academic partnerships and community organizations to the health and wellbeing of their communities.

The conference was spearheaded by the Chicago Consortium for Community Engagement (C3), a network of academic research institutions and community stakeholders that leverage the community engagement resources within Chicago’s Clinical and Translational Science Institutes (CTSIs). They seek to maximize the impact of community-engaged research in order to improve population health and health equity throughout greater Chicago.

The conference joined researchers, community stakeholders and local policy makers who share a common vision for a healthier Chicago. A keynote talk from David Stovall, PhD, professor of black studies, criminally, law and justice at University of Illinois Chicago, noted how the research community must bear in mind that the people experiencing trauma often have the best insights into how to solve problems.

In addition to the keynote and panel discussions, a poster session highlighted over 45 community-facing research efforts occurring throughout Chicagoland.
