Research Advancement

Overview

Research Advancement catalyzes, accelerates and advances interdisciplinary research across the translational spectrum, with an emphasis on reducing health disparities.  We support faculty from all schools/colleges and foster a culture of collaboration across the East and West campuses.

We offer an integrated suite of services to empower faculty take their research to the next level, including early career faculty who are seeking to garner their first R01 as well as established investigators who are planning a complex proposal submission, such as an interdisciplinary research center, program project, or multi-site clinical trial.  We can help faculty explore new directions to broaden the scope of their research project, identify potential collaborators or partner organizations, provide guidance on potential funding mechanisms and more.

Depending on your project needs, we can suggest a brainstorming session (“Research Huddle”) to assist with early-stage concept development or provide ad-hoc or ongoing consultative support and tailored resources in connection with a large-scale proposal submission.

Dr. Niranjan Karnik talks about his experience working with Dr. Karen Cielo of the Research Advancement consultation service for a large-scale interdisciplinary grant proposal.

“I think the resource here is, if you need to go beyond your traditional collaborators and beyond your traditional  partners and if you need to go between other departments or units and colleges and really reach across campus, that’s when this is the type of support that would be important to have. For the vast majority of senior faculty, I think that we always could use good support to  get these projects done, and I think Research Advancement is one component of having that team.”
