Phlebotomy Training Call
Description
The UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science’s Clinical Research Center (CRC) currently offers the following trainings: Phlebotomy, Vitals/Anthropometrics, and Basic Laboratory Processing. These trainings are offered to all UIC faculty, staff, and students who are affiliated with a research study.
There is a class fee associated with each of these trainings. You will be asked to provide a departmental C-FOAP account in the survey (2-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX) which will be used to charge the class fee upon completion of your attendance to the training course. If you have any questions regarding providing this C-FOAP you can contact the CRC.
Phlebotomy Training
Training Requirements
There are two parts to the Phlebotomy Training provided by the CCTS Clinical Research Center (CRC). The phlebotomy training is offered monthly.
Part 1: 2 Hour In-person Class
Part 2: Student Observation
The student must complete a minimum of 5 observed blood draws under the direction of the CRC Phlebotomy Team. The time to complete the observation portion varies from student to student depending upon the student’s comfort level and proficiency at managing the information and skills learned during the in-person class. Students must make arrangements to return to the CRC with their own volunteers to complete the observation portion.
Certification:
CITI Human Subjects Protection Basic Course or an OPRS approved continuing investigator training in human subjects protection is required prior to attending any of the CRC training sessions. Per the OVCR UIC Training Requirements for all UIC Investigators and key research personnel.
Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) and Needlestick Prevention Training is required prior to attending the Phlebotomy Training sessios. BBP training is NOT offered by the CRC. You must register for the BBP class through the UIC Environmental Health and Safety Office.
After the completion of both the in-person class and observation requirements, the CRC will provide the student with a Certificate of Completion. This states that you have completed our course but does not provide a certification in phlebotomy.
Student observation requirements must be completed within 90 days of the in-person class in order to receive the Certificate of Completion.

Vitals Anthropometrics Training
Training Requirements
Vitals Anthropometrics training consists of a 2 hour in-person training session.

Basic Laboratory Processing Training
Training Requirements
Basic Laboratory Processing Training consists of a 2 hour in-person training session.
