REACH Honors College Program

The Honors College is an option for undergraduate students at UIC who seek additional academic challenge and extra-curricular opportunities. HON 201, “An Introduction to Clinical and Translational Science,” is an elective, one credit, one semester Honors College course that consists of ten 1.5 hour sessions over the semester. It introduces students, most of whom have a background in the natural sciences, to Clinical and Translational Science (CTS). It outlines the range of research questions and accompanying methodologies used in CTS and demonstrates how to refine some questions to testable hypotheses. It also outlines the steps involved in the attempt to test these hypotheses: research design, analysis plan, subject protection, patient consent and IRB application, patient recruitment, data collection analysis, results, and implications.
